There are two folders that need to have full control set for the Administrators group: If this does not solve the problem, the most common cause of this type of issue is a problem with the permissions on the Garmin folders that the Garmin Core Update Service uses. NET Framework Repair Tool from the link below: Make sure that you have run the Microsoft. NET Framework, problems with Windows components and permission related problems. This can be caused by many issues with the computer including problems with the. It is clear by your post that the issue here is that the Garmin Core Update Service is not starting as it should. I am sorry that you are having trouble with Garmin Express. Can't make the situation any worse than it is for the customers like me who PAY THEIR SALARIES!! Fire them all - from the directors down to the coffee-makers, and start again from scratch. If it were up to me I'd FIRE the *entire* programming AND marketing departments - throw them all out! The programmers for releasing beta-software, and the marketers for making empty claims about said software. Virb Edit is deficient in SO many ways My Edge 810 does not always give good directions when following a route and now this with Garmin Express. I'm **tired** of Garmin software not working as advertised. I installed it, and it worked fine for about a month - and then, out of the blue, it stopped working. Now, because Garmin claim that GE will automatically upload my rides to Strava and Endomondo, I want to use it again. Then it started giving problems (I can't remember exactly what now) - I just removed it completely (I don't need software on my PC that doesn't work). GE used to work, when I first started uploading my rides, many months ago now. net framework is in good working order it is. I found a post here which advocated checking that my installation of. Uninstalling / reinstalling GE has not solved the problem. This made the situation neither better nor worse. However, under an admin account I stopped this service (I don't need GE to check for updates each time it runs - especially if this will make it hang each time) and prohibited this service from running. This service cannot be stopped under a normal user. Task Manager also shows the Garmin Core Update Service as 'Starting'. Ending either process does not allow GE to detect my Edge 810. Windows Task Manager shows two Garmin processes: 'Express.exe *32' and 'ExpressTray.exe'. The above also proves that my USB cable and ports are all functioning 100% - as is the Windows software (and all other software) controlling such things. I know this is wrong because 1) Windows recognises my Edge 810 - I can browse both the internal memory and the attached extra memory card and transfer files, etc 2) websites such as Strava, Endomondo and RWGPS can all upload my rides without the need of GE at all (funny how THAT works - only Garmin software cannot detect a Garmin device!) and 3) applications such as Golden Cheetah and Sport Tracks can also access my ride data directly from my Edge 810. Neither a) supplying an admin password nor b) running GE under an admin account allows GE to run as expected (IOW as advertised!) - instead I get to the 'Get Started / Take the Tour' welcome screen because my device is 'not detected'. GE (run under a normal user account) will run, but it asks me to authorise 'a tool to aid in developing services for Windows NT' (C:\Windows\SysWOW64sc.exe - Garmin Core Update Service). GE Ver.: 3.2.19.0 (GE tells me this is latest version) No matter what I do, GE will not detect my Edge 810 which is connected to my PC by USB. I have browsed the last 10 pages or so of posts here, and found nothing that helps me solve my issue with Garmin Express (GE).
